About Compass Rose

On the map, the compass rose helps us find our way. I created Compass Rose Counseling so that you can find the space to work towards the changes you seek in your life.

I believe in creating a supportive, collaborative counseling relationship so that you can be yourself -- in therapy and in life.

I invite you to contact me to see if we might be a fit for a counseling  relationship.

About Me

As we build our relationship, I am sharing a bit about my education, experience, and approach to counseling, so that you can decide if we might be a good fit.

I earned my EdS (above a masters) in Counselor Education with a focus in Marriage, Couples and Family Counseling from the University of SC, and I am licensed (#7756) as an LPC-a in the State of South Carolina. I earned a BA in Philosophy from Pomona College in Claremont, CA (1999, Phi Beta Kappa).

In addition to extensive coursework, my program required hands-on experience in counseling. I worked with children at Epworth Children's Home, and I interned with diverse students (ages 5-18) and their families at Family Intervention Services at Richland School District Two. Since graduation I have worked in private practice, with couples, individuals, teens, parents and families.

Beyond graduate training, I am certified in Stepping Stones Triple P Level 3,  a positive parenting program for families raising children with disabilities, and the Gottman Method of Couples Counseling (Level 1).

On the path to becoming a counselor, I worked with families raising children with disabilities at Family Connection of SC. I have  experience teaching advocacy skills and preparing for IEP and 504 meetings

You can contact me for a free 15 minute consultation.

My Approach to Counseling

I draw from humanistic, family systems, experiential, attachment, narrative, mindfulness, Gottman and trauma informed counseling models to help you meet your goals.

I work with couples (all stages and types), individuals, parents and teens. An area of interest is supporting  families raising children with disabilities.

I counsel individuals and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, stress and life transitions.

I support parents/caregivers so they can be there for their children/teens.

I work with families raising children with disabilities and special healthcare needs.

I help couples strengthen their relationship, deepen their love, and turn to one another.

I believe in creating a strong therapeutic relationship so clients can work towards the change they seek in their lives!
